AMAs 2014 Best Dressed

I’ll be honest—I didn’t actually watch the American Music Awards last night. But after observing gifs and vines from Twitter, it seems like the only important thing that happened was Taylor Swift dancing and Lorde smearing her lipstick.

I did, however, obsessively watch the red carpet. Awards shows like these have so much potential for fashion because they’re not serious (e.g. Oscars, Grammy’s) so there’s a lot of creative possibilities. I mean, this is the award show that Lady Gaga arrived to in a mechanical horse while wearing Versace.

That being said, my favorite looks were those of people who took risks, had fun and didn’t take it too seriously.

Black and white ensembles were classic choices for some ladies. Charlie XCX channeled old school Hollywood before getting on stage and donning a 50s prom dress, and then rip it off (which is why I’m obsessed with her). And Taylor Schilling is just adorable. Always.

Bright colors also created some stunners. Normally I’d think Rita Ora’s Zac Posen gown was too formal, but her cute top knot and neon yellow hue made it playful enough for this red carpet. Mary Lambert also showed off an incredibly flattering dress with a Pinterest-chic braid that I’m totally jealous of.

At the end of the evening, I couldn’t decide on just one look that was my favorite. Two Instagram queens killed it in different ways: 1. Kendall Jenner, and honestly I don’t think I have to say much else. And 2. Gigi Hadid, whose modeling career is skyrocketing after posing in a latex corset for the Pirelli 2015 calendar, absolutely nails the sexy suit look which I will forever hate myself for never wearing to prom.
