The Teen Choice Awards took place Sunday night, and while I’m no longer a teen, I still have dreams of winning one of those ridiculous surfboard trophies.
With every award ceremony comes the red carpet fashion. The fashion of the Teen Choice Awards is particularly fun to watch because it’s a smaller-scale, less formal event, meaning that celebrities don’t feel the pressure to wear a huge ball gown. Instead, fun and funky styles shine through, and attendees take more fashion risks.
The crop top trend is still in full effect, and was a sensible choice given the Los Angeles summer heat.

Mitchell gets my extra applause for combining her cute crop ensemble with two of my favorite trends right now: dark lips and an all-white outfit.
The Giver star Odeya Rush chose a more formal gown for the evening. Not only is the tailoring on her dress incredibly flattering (I love that it hits her at the ankles), the combination of red and nude is a unique and flirty color palette that really compliments her dark hair.

Femininity wasn’t the only winner of the night. Selena Gomez looked chic in a Yves Saint Laurent suit, a.k.a. my dream outfit. Borrowed-from-a-tux looks are so tricky to master that it always puts a smile on my face when they’re done right. However, the risk is worth it; a well-fitting suit is far sexier than any miniskirt.

In typical award-show fashion, I’ve saved the best for last. My favorite look of the night comes from Pretty Little Liars‘ Janel Parish. She puts a unique spin on the crop top trend by pairing it with a maxi skirt. I love the addition of bold, chunky jewelry; it takes the silky look from formal to relaxed and bohemian. The combination of teal and navy is strikingly unique, and still manages to look pulled together.
